Boat Dives
Mogan Caves
The mogan caves are about a mile away from the harbour of Puerto
Mogan. The place got it's name from the little caverns you can find in
a
depth of about 9 to 11 meters. The cavern has a mostly sandy bottom
so keep your eyes out for some stingray taking a nap. There are always
a lot of tromped fishes around and the visibility is very good here. The
maximum depth is 15-16 meter.
Mogan Wreck's
The mogan wreck's are just in front of the harbour of Puerto Mogan.
They are the main attraction to the yellow submarine excursion in
Puerto Mogan. You can meet the submarine under the water every
morning.
There are two wreck's "the old one" and "the new one". The wrecks are
in a depth about 18 meter and 50 meters from each other. So you can
visit both of them in one dive. The new wreck is a 30 metre fishing boat
which was sunk in March of 2002. The other wreck has been there a lot
longer and the marine life is very interesting. Expect to find large shoals
of fish, moray eels, barracudas and yellow gunters as well as many
other types of fish.
Octopus Garden
To get to the reef we will take you a a 10 minute boat trip from Puerto
Rico. The reef has a depth of between 21 to 23 metres.
It is the home of the famous "Big Ben" the old yellow spotted moray eel.
The reef itself is very flat with many hiding places. So you have to look
under all the little overhangs on the reef and you will find a
sleeping stingray.
Arguineguin Reef
The reef got it's name from the fishing village of Arguineguin which
is
near by. The boat ride to the reef takes about 10 minutes from Puerto
Rico. The reef start's at 11 metres and falls slowly down to a
maximum 15 metres.
Pasito Blanco
This is probably the best reef dive in the south of the island. The
boat
trip to the reef takes about 30 minutes from Puerto Rico. The top of the
reef start's at 12 metres and drops down to 23 metres. The reef is
steaming with marine life. Big scholes of yellow gunters, moray eels
sneaking through the reef, stingrays sleeping in the sand and
barracudas circulating above you controlling the scene.
Ray Bank
The artificial reef is close to the Pasito Blanco reef and is a project
of
the University of Las Palmas.
The reef consists of concrete blocks which are organized in a big
square on a sandy bottom 23 metres below the surface.
The sandy bottom along with the blocks are a perfect place to find all
kind of rays.
But its not only rays you will see here. There are moray eels,
barracudas and other fish around.
Wreck's of Las Palmas
There are about 8 wrecks that you can dive to in Las Palmas. For sure
there is one for every taste. From big Cargo Ships 110 metres to little
Fishing Trawlers at 30 metres. The wrecks are steaming with marine life
and every dive is a unique experience. If you are in Gran Canaria they
are a must.
Shore Dives
Medio Almud
Medio Almud is a dive that you can do from the shore or with the boat.
The Boat trip from Puerto Rico takes 10 minutes. The reef starts at 0
metre and goes very slow down to maximum 13 metres. Here you can
find a lot of Cuttle Fish and with a bit of luck there are Stingrays
sleeping in the sand. This spot is perfect for a shallow dive.
Playa del
Cura
This is our favored place to do our courses. It provides a very easy
entrance and exit via the beach and has the best conditions for an
easy dive. The maximum depth you can reach here is 12 metre. In the
bay there are a lot of cuttle fish and in the winter the rays come into
the shallow water to create new life.
Nature Park
Of Arinaga
Close to the town Arinaga is the Underwater Nature Reserve "El
Cabrón". Here you can make a few different dives. It is the most visited
dive spot on the island. The volcanic formation is spectacular and
together with the big schools of fish it is one of the best dive sites
in
the Canary Islands. You can dive here to 40 metre and in 30 meter you
will find the famous Yellow Coral of Arinaga.
Caleta Baja
The entrance is near the village Caleta. There is a big cave that is very
easy to enter. On the sandy bottom you will see some rays and in the
blue there are Barracudas turning around. The depth here is maximum
23 metre.
Sardina
de Norte
On the north west tip of the island is a very popular spot for divers
from
Las Palmas. Because of the protection from the harbour wall it is almost
always possible to dive at this spot. The entrance and exit is easy and
the dive too. The maximum depth is 17 metre.
